CBS (CZ), TBBS (NS) and MBS (NOBS) are the three most common sulfenamide delayed-action accelerators. This guide compares cure kinetics, scorch safety and applications to help you choose.
Cure & Scorch Profile
CBS gives moderate scorch delay and good cure; TBBS offers faster cure and slightly less scorch safety; MBS (NOBS) cures fastest but has shorter scorch time—handle with care due to nitrosamine concerns.

Comparison at a Glance
See the selection table below for active content, cure speed, scorch safety, typical dosage and main applications.
| Grade | Active content | Cure speed | Scorch safety | Typical dosage | Main applications |
| CBS (CZ) | ≥ 80% | Good, balanced | Moderate scorch delay | 0.5–1.5 phr | Tire treads, general molded goods |
| TBBS (NS) | ≥ 80% | Faster than CBS | Slightly less than CBS | 0.5–1.5 phr | Tire treads, general molded goods |
| MBS (NOBS) | ≥ 80% | Fastest | Shortest, scorch-sensitive | 0.5–1.2 phr | Fast-curing profiles, where regulations allow |
Selection Tips
For tire treads and general molded goods, CBS or TBBS are standard. For fast-curing profiles needing shorter cure time, MBS may be considered where regulations allow. Always pair with a thiuram/dithiocarbamate secondary accelerator when higher activity is needed.
